I can’t control the wind but I can adjust the sail.”

Ricky Skaggs

That’s a philosophy I’ve shared most of my life. We can choose to be blown to oblivion or, we can choose to raise our sails and sail strongly through life.

During this pandemic we’ve all been affected, most of us in some negative way or another — and to varying degrees. I’ve had my ups and downs but they’ve been like speed bumps and not mountains. As I’ve been plodding my way through the pandemic, my compass has led me to clearing some weeds (plucking Facebook from my life) and to nurture the plants that feed me (my photography, letters to friends/family, long walks, and the piano).

“To be patient, to be tolerant and to not fritter away your creativity by looking at a screen. A screen can open your eyes to a lot of wonderful things that you wouldn’t normally have access to, but mostly it’s not real. Look out of your window, because that is reality. When it comes to making an important photograph, reality is the greatest place to start.”

Grace Coddington

This quote by Vogue’s Grace Coddington really grabbed me by my collar. I can fully relate to her advice. Reality, and not screens is where I get my inspiration and it’s also what feeds my soul. What feeds your soul?

  1. Not Farcebook or Twitter!
Music, books, art, gardens, fresh air. Pretty much the things I loved before computers rolled over the world.

  2. All you say is true – thank you for the gentle reminders. I’m glad the pandemic has been more like speed bumps to you. Lovely photos as always. What feeds my soul? Nature, kindness, fresh air. Wishing you a lovely week ahead!
