Norwegian Fjord, a different view

Once upon a time, my life revolved around horses. I spent time with them as if they were siblings, they were my companions, and each one taught me lessons in life.

At ten, I was involved in a very serious horseback riding accident in which I nearly lost my life. After months in hospital everyone was certain I’d never go near a horse again. How wrong they all were.

Years later at an international show — Jake Amira

I saved my money to buy my own horses; I even trained my own horses; and for a few years made a living working with horses for other people.

Gay Parade, he was one of my favourites — what personality

To this day, I find the sweet, earthy smell of a horse nearly intoxicating. I love to feel their muzzle and breath on my face. I love to connect.

My memories with all the horses is deeply embedded in my heart and times spent in the company of horses as some of the best in my life. But when working hard with a growing family and all of its responsibilities, I had made the difficult decision that keeping horses was no longer financially feasible.

Things end, such as certain times in a person’s life, but memories last forever. And, in turn, those memories are one of my many treasures.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my first instalment of this feature I’m calling Wildcard Wednesday. The plan is that it will appear on random Wednesdays and, as the name suggests, the subject could be just about anything — a true wildcard.

  1. i have a cousin like you when it comes to horses. she could not possibly live without her horses. the last time i mounted one it attempted to buck me off, but it failed. that was enough to make me never get back on a horse and that was 1982.

    you’re very brave

absolutely love, love, love the sway of the back image. what a conversation piece that would be if it were hanging on a wall. seems to me it should be hanging in a gallery.

  2. I sometimes refer to things from the past as “in another lifetime.” Yes, things do come to an end. I love the song Closing Time (by Semisonic) with it’s catchy line, “every new beginning is another beginning’s end.” Without ends, there wouldn’t be room for the new things. Thanks for sharing your lovely memories.
