Here’s a simple riddle that’s easy to remember:

  • Question: How do we never forget the good times?
  • Answer: We save them by printing them, so print your photos

To make those special moments last, it’s easy to get them off your phone and into print. Then you can even display them around your home or office. Or, give a few away as gifts.

Many of us are inspired to take a few photos when celebrating the special events but how many actually get those precious photos printed? You’ll thank yourself if you take one more step and get your favourite moments printed.

So, flip through the memories this Dad’s Day! Remember not only to take photos on the day but also print them to add to an album or create a photo book to give to dad as a bonus post-Father’s Day gift. Here’s a couple ideas / tips for upcoming Dad’s Day photo-taking.

Dad and the Kids: Be sure to get photos of Dad and the kids doing things together, whether it’s playing ball in the backyard, riding bikes, roasting marshmallows, playing cards, or even sitting on the couch watching TV. So often parents are behind the lens snapping photos of the kids at each event. This year be certain to jump into the photo with Dad (same thing applies on Mother’s Day, of course). Now in future years, you will have the pleasure of looking back at how each family member has changed or grown, not to mention a few chuckles along the way. All of this applies to dad and his adult-children — it’s the activities that may be different.

Grandpa and the Kids: Don’t forget to photograph each kid and their grandparents. It will be special for the kids to have individual photos taken with their Grandpa (or Grandma). These are the special moments. For a posed multigenerational photo, try this idea: put the focus on Grandpa (Grandma) by having him sit at the centre of the couch/bench/log and encircling him with kids and grandkids. Of course, this applies to photos of Dad and the kids as well.

Don’t Worry About Posing: Sometimes the best moments are the unplanned and candid ones. Those candid moments are the beautiful moments. So don’t always tell Dad, Grandpa, or the kids to look at the camera. Just be ready to capture some real moments and some real connections.

A few random ideas: Don’t forget to capture images that show moments of the day such as breakfast-in-bed; special dishes made for the day; traditions; games played; hugs; and anything that shows connections with one another or fun times. In fact, if dad loves to tinker with cars for example (or any other hobby/pastime/passion), get a photo of him doing that too.

Print Your Photos: Now the important part comes into play. Get those photos off your phone, or camera. Send or take your photos to be printed. Whether you have individual prints made to put in an album or use a template for a photo book, it’s easier than ever to do something with those photos. These days you can also have photos printed on mugs, tote bags, coasters — the sky is the limit.

Enjoy the day dedicated to dad but don’t forget to take photos — and get them printed!

  1. My 80-year-old father is coming over tomorrow to watch the MontrĂ©al Grand Prix and eat some T-bone steak afterwards… I don’t know how many more of these occasions we’ll have left. You’ve reminded me how important it will be to make photos tomorrow. Thank you.

  2. A few years ago I made my husband a scrapbook for Father’s Day of both the kids and grandkids. It was much enjoyed. đŸ™‚ There’s just something pleasurable about looking through a hands-on collection of photos rather than just seeing them digitally.

  3. i went through all of my printed photos; which are from the ’80’s and ’90’s this past week. they’re all in one box now, separated into envelopes by the location of where we lived when they were taken. it made me think i should print some of the digital era of our lives. good advice.
