Overcast days can be some of the best. Lightly cool, yet warm enough to be comfortable without gloves and ideal for walking the dog — which happens at least a couple times each day. From the moment I pulled into the parking lot at Rathtrevor Beach, my spirits lifted. My focus was much less on the forest itself but rather the vistas. Everyone we encountered was smiling and shared friendly greetings. Couples, individuals, people walking dogs, and families with children appeared like essential characters in the theatre of life.

All images this day were taken with an iPhone 11

Rathtrevor takes its name from the Irish family headed by William Rath who homesteaded on the land in the late 1800s.

One of the best spots on Vancouver Island to view the migrating Brandt Geese as they stopover to feed on sea lettuce, eelgrass & herring roe occurs at this time of year (February 15 through April 30). Dogs are not allowed on the beach during this time.

  1. what a beautiful park and you’ve captured it beautifully. it’s nice to see that Heidi is welcome and so nice to see she can be off her leash and behave herself. what a little lady.

  2. A splendid outing for this time of year! I love the points of view along the paths and under the towering pines. It just draws you in.

  3. What gorgeous pics. I love the rough texture and zig zag of the fences. The pic with the tall upright trees and the fenced path is my favourite!

  4. Several years ago I had a lovely walk along Rathtrevor beach. It was on our list of possible areas to live. It didn’t work out but we did find something 10 minutes drive from another beach. Beach walking is absolutely my favourite thing to do.
