“I enjoy very much being in a foreign country, in a new country, new place. And I enjoy also beginning a new book. It’s like being someone else.” — J. M. G. Le Clezio

Running errands.

Checking at my favourite used book store for some of the upcoming novels to be read in our book club.

On the way to my next errand, I made an unplanned stop to capture this general store. Ever since moving here I’ve been intending to pause and take a few photos.

Once back home, from my office these two faces were peering at me. I’m sure they were reinforcing that spring is trying very hard to make its presence.

Good thing I had set the table in advance for our guests. Enough time for last minute meal preparations.

Looks like there was a delivery while I was out. A soft cover photo book from Parabo Press arrived. Shipping costs were rather steep but the quality of the photos is impressive so that’s a redeeming factor. May even order more from them.

another photo book — this time a soft cover

At the bookstore I had managed to get next months book to read for book club. After guests leave, it patiently awaits for me to meet the characters and foreign discoveries.

Ray Bradbury said, “A book has got smell. A new book smells great. An old book smells even better. An old book smells like ancient Egypt.” The book that awaits smells like Russia.

Speaking of discoveries, the following quote is the best one I’ve read today; in fact, the most inspiring one in a week. “When I type I dream I am playing Chopin.” — Shawna Lemay wrote that in her newest book, The Flower Can Always Be Changing.

  1. Such beautiful images Diane, thank you. The two at the top remind me of my visits to North Carolina where there are similar stores, so good to investigate for new ideas and gifts.

I do so wish that Spring would get a move on here, it is so late in coming and everyone is feeling low. All we need is some sunshine.

  2. Oh, Diane, how I love the photograph of the general store. You just don’t seem any like this anymore, and I think that is really sad.

Thank you so much for sharing your day, and such lovely photographs, here.

Have a wonderful week ahead, my friend.
    xo.

  3. There is a feeling of nostalgia and the springing forth of memories. Then there is a story told in color and elegance. I like your images.

  4. i didn’t know ray bradbury said that about books smelling good. i’ve told people i never intend to buy digital books because i like to hold them in my hands. i like the feel of them and the smell of them.

people look at me with a snarl on their face when i say i like the smell of books. i always wanted to work in a library because i like the atmosphere and the smell. people disagree with me on that as well.

i enjoyed this little trip you took us on today. the two top images surprised me. it’s feels very isolated where you live. do you have a mall and a large city. i like having large cities near me for shopping purposes. if it were my decision i would in a large city downtown in a loft, looking down on the street.

so nice to see your table set for guests and i like how you captured it with the macro of the tulips.

the little violas remind me of my grandmother, my mother’s mother. i found out she loved them after she had already passed away. i had them planted and my mother saw them and said, “oh, your grandma garnet always loved violas.”

if we want to grow pansies or violas, we have to grow them in the winter because they thrive all winter and die in the summer.
