“. . .  What I want to say is
that the past is the past,
and the present is what your life is,
and you are capable
of choosing what that will be,
darling citizen.

So come to the pond,
or the river of your imagination,
or the harbor of your longing,
and put your lips to the world.

And live
your life.”

. . . Excerpt from Mary Oliver’s poem, “Mornings at Blackwater”

In my last post I concluded by asking you the question, “What were your 2019 accomplishments? Big or small, all victories deserve celebrating.” I didn’t get any responses so I thought I’d share part of my list of accomplishments from last year anyway. Although only a partial list, some are big; others are small, yet worthy of celebrating.

  • Started with a new piano teacher.
  • Played my first public piano recital.
  • Left my in-person piano teacher to commence piano lessons online.
  • Began playing piano for my friends when they come for dinner.
  • Moved from a skyless home to one filled with light and a broad view of the sky
  • Gained immense health benefits by continuing with a different way of eating, resulting in being able to end all prescribed medications and losing 45 pounds.
  • Got back to knitting and made myself a lovely scarf and a Downton Abbey hat.
  • Continued to gather with friends at our home and at their homes over meals and great conversation.
  • Continued to write more letters.

  1. the pond photos are all so beautiful. it appears your pond is a very tranquil place and the words you chose to accompany them are just perfect.

as for my accomplishments, i managed to think of a half dozen or so new ideas to market through pearweed but as usual, someone had already thought of the idea. “there is nothing new under the sun”, confirmed again and again.

i’m still working on new ideas though : – )

  2. Yes you accomplished a lot last year. I want to know how you lost 45 lbs! That’s fantastic!! And to get off all meds, now that is what I want to. Email me your new way of eating pleas 🙂

  3. I can’t remember what I did yesterday, so I’m digging deep into the recesses of my brain to determine what I accomplished in 2019! Let’s see: I helped a friend run her first 10K race, I came to the realization that hip arthritis may prevent me from running but won’t stop me from being active and encouraging others to be active; I shot my first engagement photo session, I got to travel to great places including China. I sent my daughter off into the world. I attended several concerts and cultural festivals.

I love your accomplishments, they made me think about things I would like to do more of.
