celebrating spring

Where love is nourished is what we call home. Our feet may take us away but our hearts shall never stray — from home.

A house that has been experienced is not an inert box. Inhabited space transcends geometrical space.

Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space

I imagine they used a mason jar for preserves but also to save their coins.

inside families made memories, they cried, they laughed

The mothers who made this home used old flour sacks to make diapers for their children. The fathers made the furniture.

they gave birth, they toiled, likely wept, and celebrated
they had a family album, packed picnics, went to church
every home overflows with stories
some homes are cheerful and inviting
some homes are cozy and comforting
life is what creates a home
dark times fade; dawn brings a new day
filled with happy sounds
The Home I Love by Kay Hoffman:
But one I know is far more sweet
Where tiny smudges on the wall
Tell of fingers dear and small.
Where toys are sometimes strewn about
And doors are banging in and out.
Where little children play and sing,
And laughter's often heard to ring...
The home I love is filled with noise
Of happy little girls and boys!

I’m finding myself ever so grateful for my home. But also for the childhood home that my mother made. What does home mean for you?

  1. Hello again!
I’m so sorry, but a re-shuffle on the computer wiped out quite a few addresses and yours was one!
But here I am, still tethered in Mackay and trying to catch up with things and people. 2020 was a hideous time for many of us. But we’re fine and hope all is well with you, too.

  2. Beautiful images of these various homes. I’m grateful to wakeup each morning and greet my wife and poodle. They make home a joy.

  3. I love the photo of the house with birdhouses on the side. Homes are not just for humans! Home is my refuge, the place where I can be completely ‘me’ and express myself without being afraid of being vulnerable. It is where I find my center and where love resides.

  4. Lovely, Diane! A home for me is a place where we can all be together and enjoy each other. Having recently completed the renovation of our family room, I’ve really noticed how having a functional common space that allows everyone to do their own thing together can bring families together. Our weekly family movie nights, for example, are now such a treat in a space that meets our needs.

  5. No matter what the house looks like outside, it’s the lives that are lived inside! Home means warmth, security and togetherness.

  6. a stunning collection and i love your narrative for each of them

gotta love the flowers in the vase because of the hues and softness
