Casting Call for Horse / Equine Model (Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Hythe, or anywhere in those general areas)

I am looking for a horse model for a casual outdoor photo shoot (in the snow) to expand my portfolio. This casting call is for any breed of light or heavy horse in healthy condition. The photo shoot will be done in the privacy and comfort of your farm, ranch, or boarding stable.

fine art equine portrait by professional photographer Diane Schuller

I will require a signed model release from anyone who takes part to allow me to use the images for my portfolio. In exchange there will be no cost for the session and owners of models will be compensated with a gift of five printable digital images (a total value of $469). If you or anyone you know is interested, please use the Contact form above (in the black menu bar). I will be selecting one model for certain, but may consider a second. To be considered for this opportunity, please contact me right away to discuss the details. If you know of someone  with a horse who may be interested, please send them here! There is an “email a friend” link below for your convenience. This is a limited time offer (offer expires February 15th, 2011 but photo shoot will be arranged at a day/time convenient both for the photographer and the recipient).

Here’s what to include to get a conversation started, and to be considered:

  • Your name and location;
  • A brief description of your horse (including breed, if known; colour; age; and notes on horse’s personality);
  • A brief description of the landscape where your horse resides (large pastures, small corrals, riding stable, wooded trails, or any other pertinent information).
  • Your email and phone number.

Eligible locations: Grande Prairie, Alberta and surrounding communities; also in the Dawson Creek, BC & surrounding areas. Special consideration will be given those applicants who live in/near communities in the Grande Prairie – Hythe corridor (Beaverlodge, Wembley, etc.) or along the Highway 59 corridor (Valhalla, LaGlace areas, for instance).

Become a Fan for a Chance to Win

With the winter Olympics still quivering in our systems, what better time to run a contest!  Not too long ago I created a Facebook fan page for my photography business and am working at building the fan base so I don’t have to send out newsletters by email and to better communicate what’s new and upcoming. My current goal is 100 fans. Between today and when the 100th person becomes a fan, every new fan will be entered in a draw. Odds of winning are very high if you see how close we are to 100. At that point, I will have a friend make a random draw for me and the person whose name is drawn will receive one half (1/2) off my session fee for a 2010 booking, and the person referring the winner will win a complimentary session!  Check out Diane Schuller Photography on Facebook to become a fan!

You’re likely wondering if there is a catch. No catch, but the ideal people to refer are those who live in or around Grande Prairie, Alberta or within the Peace River region of northern Alberta since those are the areas I primarily service. (For example:  Beaverlodge, Clairmont, Grovedale, Hythe, LaGlace, Sexsmith, Spirit River, Valhalla, Wembley — you get the idea! Also, since I’m so close, I also service the Dawson Creek, Pouce Coupe, and Tomslake areas of northern BC).

What’s the advantage of being a FB fan? Fans are the first to know about upcoming specials, promotions, contests, model searches, and other news. Also, some of the contests will be strictly for fans-only. Fans don’t get spammed and Facebook does NOT give the business (Diane Schuller Photography) access to the fan’s (you) personal information. Don’t forget that I also do pet and horse (any livestock) photography — that’s how I got started. So be sure to let your friends, family, coworkers know about my services and Facebook fan page. Thanks a bunch!

Please share my Facebook photography fan page with friends, family, and co-workers for your chance to win!

PS: You do not have to live in the area to become a fan but for this particular contest to win the prize you need to be in the area so you can ‘collect’ your winnings!

Good luck everyone — ready, set, go!

Back Next Week

farmquad

It’s been an extremely busy week for me. Working on one client’s special requests, I had two very late nights and worked the entire day Saturday. Monday got off to a hectic start and things simply haven’t slowed down.
I have an in-person meeting with another client this morning — she made my day yesterday in her effusive praise of the images I produced for them. Nearly every minute is scheduled with my lengthy to-do list as I prepare to leave for Edmonton for the long weekend. Saturday I’m doing a photo shoot for a couple who are renewing their wedding vows and the rest of the weekend will be spent between visiting with my son and his family and shopping for a new laptop (Mac, of course). May you all have a truly wonderful long weekend. I hope to begin to visit some of you as I find extra time here-and-there next week. Happy days everyone!

Family Celebration :: {Valhalla, Alberta area Photographer}

Here is a sneak peek of a photo shoot I had the pleasure of doing this past weekend. It was a grand family gathering celebrating three significant family milestones. What a warm family and I felt honoured to be chosen to capture their special day. Have I ever mentioned how much I love what I do?  :)  This first young lady turns 90 in a few months!

This is a lovely traditional Norwegian Wedding Cake, kransekake. As you can see, it’s a work of art and a beautiful tradition.

dsc_0902There was all kinds of food all day long and Bison was a juicy, delectable feature at mealtime (as well as Arctic Char and a huge variety of tasty foods). I took a lot of photos of the details but this, after all, is simply a sneak peek.

dsc_0928This little gal ended up in a lot of images — she loves the camera! Here she poked her head out of an inflatable toy and, looking up at me, was a willing portrait study.

Invigorating

Invigorating: giving strength or energy to

Yes, that is the best word to describe my weekend. There are two reasons why it was invigorating: I spent the weekend with people and interacting with them plus I was able to get away from the farm and being tied down by the dogs. Don’t get me wrong, I love the dogs but because of them I can’t go anywhere unless my husband is home to take care of them. As for the former reason, a reminder that I often go weeks (very literally) without seeing another human being. So, this weekend was fantastic! Saturday I was in Grande Prairie all day attending a workshop where I also led a session on goal-setting for writers. Sunday I spent several hours driving through the spring countryside heading north of Grimshaw to meet a woman for a writing consult. We spent a few hours together talking about writing projects and I helped get her started on setting writing goals as well as other writing-related discussion.

Just being around people, interacting with them, plus the time away from the farm was so invigorating. What invigorates you?
