If you are new here — Welcome!

‘Let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars.’ — Mira Furlan

A true Canadian gal, spent my entire life on the Prairies, but always longed achingly for the sea. I’m there now … along the hem of the sea.

For most of my life, since I was a young girl, I have made photographs without really thinking about it or even being concerned with understanding why I did so. If I now take a moment to think about why I photograph, there are different reasons. Partly, it’s simply to document what I see or experience, like a personal visual record. I’ve also always had a tendency to record the wonder of how shadows and light come together to create patterns — a fleeting art — that I’m compelled to capture. And partly, it’s the everyday things I see — living and breathing or still and motionless — that call to be recorded. There is more to it I’m sure but I’d rather make those photographs than analyze why.

My inspirations: Often from within; in silence; in nature; but also in conversations, literature, music, art, cultures and anthropology.

I am open to photography collaborations. Get in touch.

{And if you were looking for Diane Jarvis, yes that’s me all grown up and with a different surname.}
