Farm Auction near Hythe :: Grande Prairie Custom Photographer

Yesterday, on my way home, I followed signs to a farm auction. I have always really enjoyed going to auctions and I find that farm auctions have a real zest and life all their own. The farm auction wasn’t far out of my way and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. The moment I got out of my vehicle, parked in the ditch along the highway just like all the other attendees, I could hear the auctioneer singing out bids through his loudspeaker, echoing across the fields. Auctioneers have a real talent in using their voices.

Woven through the auctioneers calls was the pungent smell of hotdogs and hamburgers sizzling on the grills. Farmers were everywhere. Many crowded around the small items set up on pallets being sold lickety split, others were checking out the large machinery, cattle pens, and flatdecks lined up with tools of all sorts. Despite a bit of cool wind, it was sunny and I could have hunkered down for a couple hours taking in all the goings-on. Instead, I poked around, took a few photos, and wandered back down the highway to my vehicle. The moment I arrived home, I downloaded the photos and sent some off to my editor. Rather pleased with myself … she bought one to appear in today’s newspaper.

Not bad for taking in a fun event.

Edmonton Wedding Sneak Peek {Grande Prairie, Alberta Photographer}

What a wonderful Saturday I enjoyed capturing this couple and their family in Edmonton. It was actually their 10th wedding anniversary and they renewed their wedding vows. What a beautiful and loving couple they are. Oh and two darling boys as well.

Family Celebration :: {Valhalla, Alberta area Photographer}

Here is a sneak peek of a photo shoot I had the pleasure of doing this past weekend. It was a grand family gathering celebrating three significant family milestones. What a warm family and I felt honoured to be chosen to capture their special day. Have I ever mentioned how much I love what I do? :) This first young lady turns 90 in a few months!

This is a lovely traditional Norwegian Wedding Cake, kransekake. As you can see, it’s a work of art and a beautiful tradition.

There was all kinds of food all day long and Bison was a juicy, delectable feature at mealtime (as well as Arctic Char and a huge variety of tasty foods). I took a lot of photos of the details but this, after all, is simply a sneak peek.

This little gal ended up in a lot of images — she loves the camera! Here she poked her head out of an inflatable toy and, looking up at me, was a willing portrait study.

This is a catch up sneak peek. I did share one image from this photo shoot a week ago and the clients already have their proofs online but I thought I’d share a trio from this one anyway. This family was so full of smiles and laughter; what a delight to photograph them on such a special occasion: their mother’s 95th birthday!

This is an image I took at a previous photo shoot — a child’s birthday party. This was a pair who were guests of the birthday boy. I only got two shots off but am delighted I turned at just that moment!

Everyone is Beautiful

When it comes to photography, Shutter Sisters is definitely one of my inspirations. It’s also a great connection with other women who are passionate about their photography. Over the weekend, I was tickled to discover they linked to one of my images (the word “inspiring” in their first paragraph) in the post that announced the winner of the One Word Project (remember I joined in the project and chose the word “Open” as my inspirational word?).

Well Shutter Sisters is at it again. For the month of March, SS has chosen the word “Beautiful” to be the inspirational word for all members as we’re going about our daily lives, camera-in-hand.
