In honour of all soldiers, past and present, who fought and saw action due to war. Even those who came back home, are forever changed by the experience. Today I particularly honour two of my family members. My mother who served as a Wren (Women’s Royal Naval Service) and my Uncle Henry Althouse (shown below) who fought in the Korean war but was killed by a fellow soldier.

“Year after year we gather and shout commands in the Square,
Wait for the Governor-General, say a few words of prayer,
Lay our wreaths in order, mothers and big shots first,
In memory of those who have made it to the other side of the worst.”
- George Johnston, Canadian poet, Remembrance, 1966
