Where mornings begin with a drum roll. — D. Schuller

On Thursday: I love waking up to the briny fragrance of the ocean. The moment I opened the patio doors before making our morning cappuccino, I took in a big ol’ hearty breath of that briny sea air.

On Friday: Awake since just before dawn, the wind so determined it was billowing beside me as I lay in bed next to the open window. I even adjusted my position in bed to take advantage of that restless, cool, fresh air. Unlike most mornings when the birdsong is the most predominant chorus, today it was the shushing of the waves in the distance and the mad ruffling of leaves.

A favourite line from the book I’m currently reading: “Independence Day arrived with the concussion of early fireworks as if a great battle had begun.” {From Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger} … update since writing the line: now that I’ve finished the novel, I highly recommend this book. My ‘review’ is at Goodreads.

morning light in the kitchen

Speaking of books, if you missed my book recommendation a few days ago, it’s a book I enjoyed so very much I’m again providing the link to my Goodreads page so you can read my thoughts after pulling my bookmark and closing the final page, should it be one you may have an interest in reading.

morning coffee on the patio

I love to begin mornings with something beautiful. Not simply something beautiful to look at, but a feeling of beauty. As in a blessing, a merit, or something alluring. It can be as simple as a hint of familiar fragrance in the air or the way the light falls on objects in the kitchen. Or the way your child laughs, or turns their head in wonder.

This, one of my all time favourite pieces of music, by Ennio Moricone is perfect morning music. Enjoy.

Wishing you a week of morning drum rolls.

  1. such feeling of fresh air your writing provoked. it occurred to me as i felt a moment of shock that your windows were open that it has been since the early ’90’s since we lived in a climate where the windows could be opened for fresh, cool air. it’s so hot where we currently live, that when we remodeled this home, to preserve the old windows, my husband used silicone to seal them.

as for your photographs, the first one in its minimalism is breath-taking and then when i scrolled down and saw the sunlight in your kitchen and the beautiful bokeh, i gasped. so stunning to have a tiny space in ones home be such a delight.

  2. A beautiful series of photos with the first one evoking such tranquility! The second one is so dynamic with the animated sky and beautiful colors. Your narrative really puts one in the mood for these relaxing mornings. I love your quote!

  3. I’m glad you’re back, Diane. We had visited each other for a few years when I was on another site and so were you. These peaceful images start my day in a sweet way, thank you.
