My grandma used to tell me that we should love people and like things. She said loving things was the biggest possible waste of love she could imagine. People need love. Things don’t.

Let’s start there Good AM everyone!

This was shared by Arlene Dickinson on Twitter on July 30th, 2019. Arlene tweets a positive message each morning that applies to everyone. This message, in particular, I found quite profound in its simplicity but especially in how important it is. It seems so many people are practically obsessed with things these days: designer fashion; luxury vehicles; the latest decor; expensive water bottles; designer sun glasses; shoes; and so on.

How often will people spend precious hard-earned money on things yet never consider helping out a friend or neighbour, or treating a friend to lunch & good conversation, or saving for a special trip for the family to experience together? It’s just as easy to save that cash and simply spend time with those you love whether it’s a conversation over coffee/tea, going for a walk or bike ride together, or inviting them to join you for dinner and a game of cards afterwards. Time we spend with the people we love is what really matters.

Don’t you love that simple message? “My grandma used to tell me that we should love people and like things. She said loving things was the biggest possible waste of love she could imagine. People need love. Things don’t.”

Thanks Arlene, that’s a message worth sharing.

  1. i so agree with that thought

too bad people are too busy to be loved, for the most part, and others who have time, are often too fearful to trust anyone to love them, for the most part

i love that you were able to capture some people who have the time and the heart
