“What nicer thing can you do for somebody than make them breakfast?”— Anthony Bourdan

Nathaniel Hawthorne said, “Life, within doors, has few pleasanter prospects than a neatly arranged and well-provisioned breakfast table.”

Breakfasts, and I’m talking the full sit-down variety with a set table and variety of options, tends to be the most relaxing of meals. Some of my favourite breakfasts have occurred while on vacation though at-home family breakfasts have always been such a pleasing start to the day. We’ve even entertained at breakfast. Not just when family or friends are staying over, but we’ve also invited friends and neighbours over for breakfast. I don’t know why we don’t do that more often. They’re easy to do, take much less planning, and are always so relaxed.

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?”

“What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?”

“I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet.

Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said.”  — A.A. Milne

For something entirely different, here’s a video I created a few days ago (before having breakfast).

  1. I want to come to breakfast at your house! I’ll have that yummy looking plate with eggs benedict please. Who doesn’t love a sauce made with a ton of butter?
A great breakfast on the weekend is my favourite thing. Maybe because I get a break and hubby usually does the cooking. Food always tastes better when someone else makes it. I like just about any kind of egg, pancakes or bacon on toast with cheese. Not a big french toast lover. And great coffee is a must.
Your pictures came out beautifully by the way. I like the thick paper and great to hear your voice.

  2. what a nice video. interesting to hear your accent. even though i didn’t grow up in the deep south, i have quite the southern accent. before she passed away, my own mother had a difficult time understanding me on the phone.

what an elegant breakfast and such a delight to invite friends. it is a good time when you have the right age group to participate.

    absolutely love Pooh’s take on breakfast : – )

so, i’ll definitely take whatever is in the third, single photo from the top. i have no idea what it is, but it looks flat yummy. then, i’ll finish with the bowl of fruit at the bottom.

  3. Diane~~

First and foremost, I LOVED your video!!! It was so nice to hear your voice, and your photos are just beautiful. I love the job that Parabo Press did with these. I especially like the thickness (thank you for showing that!!), and the fact that they actually look like cards. Love them.

Secondly, your post is so timely for me. We have a small group of close friends, and we kind of rotate going to each others houses for dinner. It is now my turn, and I was actually entertaining the idea of a brunch instead of a dinner. I think they would really enjoy it, and I know that I would enjoy making it.

    Thank you, my friend!!
    xo.

  4. Loved the video- such a treat to hear your lovely voice.

Breakfast is my absolute favorite. My family has recognized the ease to which it is to prepare and entertain, now using it for our celebrations. Christmas breakfast/brunch, Easter, etc.,..
But I can tell you, ours looks nothing like yours.

  5. How good it was to hear your voice which I found well modulated and, since I am so fond of my real-life Canadian friends, I love your accent!

Breakfast I can take or leave, oddly.
