Camera Slipcovers

A couple months ago Shutter Sisters featured a post about nifty camera straps (recycled seat belts at PhotoJojo) and strap slipcovers (various individuals at Etsy). Today my cyberfriend Junie Moon has shared how she made her own camera slipcovers for hers and her husband’s camera strap. I urge you to check out her post because, not only is it an easy peasy project, but what great results. At the end of her post she provides a list of resources for other online how-to instructions. I’m really partial to dots or stripes so I might just check out the scrap material bin in town to see if I find some material to create one of my own. If I end up not finding the time or energy for that, there are always all those great ready-made ones available from Etsy sellers. Enjoy!

picnik-collageI would love to change my camera straps from boring black & yellow to something snazzy. What a perfect gift idea but I doubt my husband would ever think of getting one, no matter how much I might hint (great guy that he is!). If you have one, whether you made it yourself or it came from one of the Etsy sellers, please leave a link here so I can pop by and take a look!

Mine looks just like this one. I paid for the name, I’m not gonna hide it:-)

I just checked out Junie’s site. What a great idea! I have some fabric that I love and haven’t known what to do with. This might be a great project for it! Now I just need to not procrastinate!

Thank you so much for sharing my own camera strap project. Besides the practicality of having a good camera strap, it’s fun to “prettify” our tools. We use our cameras to capture special moments in life; I see no reason we can’t also make our photography equipment special, too. Imbues our own individual styles as well, just as each photographer’s picture is a reflection of their style.

How fun. Though I’m not a crafty person, and I’ll probably never get to this! ha! However, I kind of like my Nikon strap. Probably because I love my Nikon.

I thought about it but, much as I like photojojo, I didn’t really like those seatbelt straps. And I’ve looked some on Etsy, too, but then I decided I like my Nikon one, too. My Nikon film camera has just a plain thick black strap on it that I bought somewhere 20 or so years ago. If I get tired of looking at my Nikon strap, I can switch it out. But those ones on Etsy are cute and I’ll check out Junie Moon’s project. So, do you really have a Nikon D300? Wow.

I don’t use my strap unless I absolutely need both hands for something else. I don’t care about how it looks so much, but I do care about comfort. I found a site, I think it was through Etsy, but they have different options on their website and you can pick out your fabric from a fabric website, so it is completely your own. http://www.wickedstitchdesigns.com/index.htm
